Recommended Reads
Enjoy a selection of this month's Recommended Reads available in Clarence Regional Library branches. Reserve your copy today. Among the titles listed is
Audrey Niffenegger's "Her Fearful Symmety"
Following her breakout bestseller, The Time Traveler's Wife, Audrey Niffenegger returns with Her Fearful Symmetry, a haunting tale about the complications of love, identity, and sibling rivalry.
The novel opens with the death of Elspeth Noblin, who bequeaths her London flat and its contents to the 20-year-old twin daughters of her estranged twin sister back in Chicago. Sisters Julie and Valentina, move to London, eager to try on a new experience. The Historic Highgate Cemetery, which borders Elspeth's home, serves as an inspired setting as the twins become entwined in the lives of their neighbors: Elspeth's former lover, Robert; Martin, an agoraphobic crossword-puzzle creator; and the ethereal Elspeth herself, struggling to adjust to the afterlife. Niffenegger brings these quirky, troubled characters to marvelous life

Nambucca Shire Libraries
Nambucca Shire Libraries in Nambucca Heads and Macksville
have had a very busy year in 2009 with many primary school classes, pre-schools and playgroups visiting the libraries as well as the usual storytimes and annually occuring events.
Perhaps the highlight of the year was a visit to Nambucca Heads Library by local Aboriginal Elders - Aunty Emily Walker, Aunty Jessie Williams, Uncle Barry Phyball and Gary Williams. Who entertained local School children and members of the public with stories and talked about their childhood experiences. It was a wonderful and enlightening experience for everyone and it is hoped that visits by the elders will become a regular feature of the library.
Over the school holidays it will be business as usual in our branches with the influx of visitors to our area as we provide a quiet, calm (and air conditioned) alternative to the beaches and river. We have many more activities planned for 2010 and look forward to seeing you soon.
